How the IACUC Helps

  • Compliance & Ethics — Ensures alignment with the Animal Welfare Act, PHS Policy, OLAW guidance, and AVMA standards.
  • Protocol Review — Full Committee Review (FCR) and Designated Member Review (DMR) based on project scope and risk.
  • Training & Resources — CITI training, medical/occupational health guidance, and researcher forms.
  • Facility Support — Procedures for access, inspections, emergency planning, and essential personnel lists.

Getting Started (New Investigators)

  1. Complete required CITI training (“Working with the IACUC” and any technique-specific modules).
  2. Prepare medical clearance (see Medical Clearance page for your role).
  3. Submit the IACUC Application with any required appendices.
  4. Check meeting dates & deadlines to plan your timeline.
  5. Monitor email for revisions—timely responses speed up approvals.
